Overview
Working within across our service and installations department you will be trained across compressed air systems including: servicing of compressors, dryers, filters, condensate management; leak detection; installation of pipework systems. This is a hands-on job role which involves travel and learning on the job with experienced engineers.

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Elements of the job role may include:

• Servicing of compressors, dryers, filters, condensate management
• Leak detection
• Installation of pipework systems including aluminium, screwed, crimped and other systems.
• General health and safety in engineering construction
• Specific pipefitting safety and safe working conditions
• Technical drawings
• Use of basic hand and power tools
• Cutting and preparing pipe
• Cold bending ferrous and non ferrous pipe
• Fabricating pipework and supports,
• Assembling and installing pipework systems
• Preparing and testing pipework systems
• The role may involve working away during the working week for which an allowance is made

Training

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Your training plan

This role will include a Compressed Air and Vacuum Technician (CAVT) Apprenticeship

The training will be completed via block release from the training provider. This will supported by training at the apprentice’s workplace – either in the workshop or at a customer’s site.

• GCSE or equivalent English (Grade 4 (C)) desirable
• GCSE or equivalent Mathematics (Grade 4 (C)) desirable

Other requirements

The role may involve working away during the working week for which an allowance is made. The role is physically demanding and involves working at height. You must be able to demonstrate an ability to work with your hands and have good levels of Maths and English GCSE qualifications. Full training is provided for all aspects of the position.

Reporting location: Coventry

Direct Air is looking for a new service engineer with either a mechanical or electrical bias, to join our expanding compressed air service team. Direct Air are based in Coventry & Cheltenham but provide service support to UK wide facilities.

The role

• You will carry out preventative and reactive maintenance, fault finding & repairs on all types of industrial compressed air equipment.
• Attendance to call outs on customers sites in or out of normal working hours to attend to breakdowns when they occur.
• Attending manufacturers training courses as necessary.
• Providing the highest standard of service or repairs to build on our already excellent relationship with our customers.
• Good communication skills and the ability to also work as part of a team is essential.
• Prepare and submit completed job sheets carried out both on paper and electronically.
• Effective communication with colleagues and customers.
• Identify and recommend system & new product upgrades to Sales team.

KEY COMPETENCIES.

• The ideal candidate must have great communication skills and have experience in mechanical and electrical fault-finding work.
• Work safely in line with current Health and Safety legislation.
• Show enthusiasm for the job in hand and demonstrate the ability to work unsupervised
• A patient and methodical approach.
• Be prepared to work away from home and at weekends when occasionally required
• Be able to understand electrical and mechanical schematic drawings and diagrams
• Be prepared to take part in the ON CALL rota that provides 24 Hour call-out to our customer base
• Installation experience not essential but would be useful
• Valid full driver’s license and safe driving record required.
• Experience/awareness of compressed air systems [desirable]

Service Engineers will be provided with all equipment required to complete the work including mobile phones, tablet and calibrated testing equipment. Engineers will be provided with a company vehicle.

Company branded work clothing will be provided along with all PPE

Service Engineers will be paid overtime, call-out payments, service engineer bonus scheme in addition to the basic salary offered

21 – 24 days holiday plus statutory bank holidays per year

Direct Air is seeking to employ a mechanical/electrical engineer graduate or equivalent due to ongoing expansion. The primary role involves conducting compressor audits at various companies throughout the UK.

Compressed air generation accounts for up to 10% of industrial energy consumption, presenting substantial potential for savings.

This dedicated position will enhance Direct Air’s reputation for providing reliable advice and recommendations based on audit data.

After completing an intensive training period, the successful candidate will undertake a diverse range of tasks, including:

• Installation of auditing equipment at sites
• Downloading and analysing audit data
• Preparation and presentation of audit reports
• Conducting air quality audits
• Leak detection audits
• Compressor control system audits
• Sales and support for flow metering
• Capital sales proposals when appropriate

The candidate will be responsible for preparing detailed audit reports that highlight system improvements. Therefore, proficiency in computer skills, specifically WORD, EXCEL, and POWERPOINT, is essential.

Exceptional communication skills are crucial for this customer-facing, sales-related role.
